Kybella®

Say goodbye to the double chin with Kybella®, an FDA-approved injectable treatment. Our experts will skillfully administer Kybella to dissolve fat cells under the chin, helping you achieve a more defined and contoured jawline.

Kybella Benefits

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable treatment that destroys fat cells in the treatment area under the chin to improve your profile.

Kybella is an injectable treatment that dissolves fat cells, to reduce small areas of excess fat. A synthetic form of deoxycholic acid, a naturally occurring enzyme in the gut, Kybella is the only cosmetic injectable approved by the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to permanently treat the submental fat, also known as the double chin. Each Kybella treatment session requires multiple injections in the specific area, and patients typically need several treatment sessions to get the results they want.

  • Kybella injections can permanently dissolve fat cells without incisions, surgery, anesthesia, or scars.
  • It’s a quick procedure, taking just 15 minutes to perform.
  • If your provider numbs the injection area in advance and applies an ice pack immediately afterward, the procedure doesn’t usually come with much discomfort.
  • You should have minimal downtime (if you don’t have severe swelling, a relatively rare side effect).
  • There is some skin tightening effect in the submental area—a “bonus” of the procedure.

What is submental fullness?

Do you have some extra fullness beneath your chin? Maybe it’s something you’ve had your whole life, something that developed over the years, or something you noticed recently. This is a condition called submental fullness, which some people refer to as “double chin.”

Both men and women may be affected by submental fullness, which can be caused by:

  • Weight gain
  • Genetics
  • Aging

How does Kybella work?

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.

Kybella may be right for you if:

  • You’re bothered (unhappy, self-conscious, embarrassed) by fat under the chin, also known as submental fullness
  • You feel the condition makes you look older or heavier than you actually are
  • You don’t want to have surgery
  • You eat well and exercise, but submental fullness does not go away

Only you and your doctor can decide if KYBELLA® is right for you. If you’re bothered by fullness under your chin and wish to avoid surgery, ask your doctor about KYBELLA®.

It is not known if KYBELLA® is safe and effective for the treatment of fat outside of the submental area or in children under 18 years of age.

Kybella Before and After Photos

After being treated with KYBELLA®, patients reported greater improvement in self-perception than patients treated with placebo, including feeling happier and looking younger based on their chin profile. They also reported feeling less embarrassed, less self-conscious, less overweight, and less bothered by the fullness under their chin.
